Jennifer R. Lewis Kannegieter
I’ve been serving Minnesota families from right here in Monticello since 2007 – because I wanted to build something different: a practice where clients are treated like people, not cases. That’s still what drives me every day.
My practice focuses on estate planning, elder law, probate administration, business formation, and uncontested family matters. I work with individuals and families who are navigating some of life’s most important transitions – and I take that responsibility seriously.
My Approach
I believe the best legal plan is one you actually understand. That means I take the time to explain what each document does, why it matters, and how it fits together. I want you to leave our meetings feeling clear and confident, not more confused than when you came in.
I also believe in looking at the full picture. Estate planning touches your finances, your family relationships, your values, and your wishes for the future. My Total Estate Planning approach considers all of it.
Author and Educator
I have authored several books and guides on estate planning – including More Than a Will: A Guide to Total Estate Planning and the Total Estate Plan Organizer – because I believe informed clients make better decisions. My goal has always been to make estate planning feel less overwhelming and more accessible, whether you’re sitting across from me in my office or reading on your own time. Many of my resources are available free of charge in our resource library.
Family First
I live in Monticello with my husband, our two sons, and our dogs. We spend our weekends at the cabin, hiking state parks, and doing the things that remind me exactly why this work matters.
To me, the importance of family isn’t just a business motto – it’s a way of life. I understand firsthand what it means to want to protect the people you love most, and that understanding shapes everything about how I serve my clients.
Rooted in the Community
Beyond my legal practice, I’m deeply involved in the Monticello community. I have been a member of the Monticello Women of Today since 2008. Once my children started school I became active with the Parent Teacher Organizations, often holding board positions and chairing fundraisers. I was honored to serve on the Monticello School Board 2018-2022. I began volunteering at the Monticello Help Center with my children in 2023. I currently serve as an adult leader for Scouts BSA in Monticello Troop 270 and Venturing Crew 3270.
